Encore Filmed presents the films of Jean Rollin

6 11 2009

ENCORE is “dedicated to giving European genre movies the proper release on dvd they deserve”… And they have done an excellent job with Jean Rollin’s classics, despite some minor issues on some of the releases, i.e. Shiver of the Vampires drops some of the “Soft core/S&M” scenes and has a 9-minute “blackout” (audio intact). Rape of the Vampire omits the alternative “clothed” scenes. On the other hand, Requiem for a Vampire includes all of the nudity and bondage/whipping scenes and Les Demoniaques is in a wonderful, pristine-quality, uncut print. Also Living Dead Girl is uncut and within a brilliant package! La nuit des Traquées includes some of the alternate “hard” scenes. The dvd sets are full of important extras and printed material, which is so often neglected these days. Buy them all!

My DVD pages at Listal

My Listal Profile

I was looking for a good place to organise a DVD catalogue online, since I wasn’t that happy with the IMDB, which totally ignored any DVDs that weren’t MOVIES per se… So I would have needed another place to list all the rest, such as music dvds and tv-series … Otherwise IMDB is a good source for movie information, so I was happy to find out that Listal utilises IMDB, but on the other hand it tries to bring forth the social media aspect… Come on, you have to admit, it is not one of the best efforts, it oddly seems like a blast from the past, but somehow, under all that fishy surface, it actually delivers!
Listal seems pretty ok when it comes to listing movies, but is heavily short of titles added to the DVD selection. You will actually need to add most of your titles, which can be frustrating. Taking the time to find a source for specs and a good stock photo. The movies selection utilises IMDB in a GOOD way, i.e. you can actually link the movie page from IMDB to your Listal page thus transferring for instance a stock photo, ta daa…. I am pretty confused, however, about the categories: ok, so, do I need to add the stuff TWICE? First as movies, and second as dvds?? That can’t be worth a Nobel. Who gives a S how many films I have seen, and does even S. Freud remember everything about his past???? That meaning: in the movies section you try to list films that you have seen, and in the dvd section you list films you own. M’man, that is some serious waste of time there brewing! Why not look it up and the add it up with whatever version you happen to have, let it be VHS or BETAMAX! So… I am still looking for an answer. Listal is close, but with all its drawbacks, it hardly seems worth adding to your hobbies…… But, until I find a better solution, I am hooked!
